Chelsea has climbed to the top of the Premier League table after following an away victory against Wigan with back to back wins at home to remain undefeated so far this season.

The first of their two victories at Stamford Bridge came against Reading on August 23 (local time), where Frank Lampard opened the scoring following a Chris Gunter foul. Reading battled back with two goals before the half however, and Chelsea went into the break trailing 2-1.

But the Blues managed to take control in the latter stages of the match, with Gary Cahill and Fernando Torres both scoring to put their team ahead. Reading went hunting for the equaliser but couldn't break through Chelsea's defence.

Branislav Ivanovic slotted home a close range goal deep into injury time to give Chelsea the match 4-2, but that score line doesn't really do justice to what was a very tight contest.

Three days later Chelsea found themselves facing off against Newcastle, where they ground out a gritty but comfortable 2-0 victory thanks to Eden Hazard, who slotted home an early goal and then assisted Fernando Torres with a second just before halftime.

That means Chelsea, as the only team to have played three games so far, are ahead of the pack on nine points. Swansea City is coming up close behind however having registered two big victories against QPR and West Ham. They take on Sunderland at home next and will look to continue their dominating form.

Meanwhile Everton are looking very good as well, registering an emphatic 1-3 win against Aston Villa at Villa Park to follow up their earlier victory against Manchester United.

They take on West Brom at the Hawthorns on Saturday night in what should be a hard fought contest, with both teams yet to drop a game this season.
