We’re all still taking a collective sigh of relief after the Socceroos along with Korea qualified for next year’s World Cup on Tuesday night. A packed clubhouse turned out to watch an enthralling couple of games, with the results ensuring both countries will represent Asia at the Brazil tournament.
We’ve also got an eye on next week’s State of Origin II, which will no doubt be another spectacular event but before then there’s still plenty of sport on the cards. Here’s our hand for this weekend- we hope you’ll help us make another full-house!
Friday night will feature the blockbuster clash between the Bulldogs and Roosters to open a shortened round of NRL action. While both sides may be missing a few stars due to Origin selection there are still two points up for grabs for these top-four aspirants. We’re looking forward to the battle of the fullbacks, where former Australian representative Anthony Minichiello will try to tame reigning player of the year Ben Barba. Coverage will start on the big screen from 7:30pm.
Saturday night we’ll be letting things roar with the opening Test match between the Wallabies and the British & Irish Lions. The Lions tasted their first defeat of their tour against the Brumbies mid-week, so will be eager to atone for the loss against the best our country has to offer. Israel Folau has been handed his debut Wallabies jersey and will be one to watch out for on the wing. The match kicks-off in Brisbane at 8pm and we expect to see our usual loyal following of rugby union supporters in for the match.
Sunday, the Eels will be looking to arrest their slide down the NRL ladder but will have their work cut out for them against the ladder leading Rabbitohs. Souths will be without their first and second choice fullbacks, with both Greg Inglis and Nathan Merritt selected for Origin. The latter being a popular replacement for Blake Ferguson after he was ruled out following assault charges laid against him earlier in the week.
Sunday the Club will also host a Development Information Session to outline a possible strategic plan for our future. Our senior management of Chris Dunn and Audrey Bannantyne have been working tirelessly on ways to ensure the long-term viability of SSC and would like to present their findings to all our members in order to get some feedback regarding the future direction of the Club. This will commence at midday and be followed by a members bbq, in order to continue the discussion in our relaxed environment. We hope you will make the effort to come and listen to some of the ideas so you can have some input into our community’s Club.
As always it’s all happening this weekend at SSC. Feel free to contact our staff if you have any questions about things we have going on and we look forward to hosting you sometime soon!
