It’s been a big week in sport for Australia, with our cricketers claiming a nail-biting win over South Africa, while the Socceroos suffered a heart-breaking injury time loss to Ecuador. There’s plenty more sport coming up that will keep you on the edge of your seat this weekend, so buckle up as we race through what’s coming up.

South Sydney got their season off to the best possible start when they defeated Sydney Roosters in the opening match of the 2014 campaign on Thursday night. The Bunnies conceded the first try but were able to easily skip past last year’s Premiers.

The rest of Round 1 action sees the Bulldogs host the Broncos on Friday night, with three matches to be played on Saturday and two on Sunday, including the Dragons and Tigers going into battle down the road at ANZ Stadium.

Of course if you’re more of a union supporter there’ll be another round of Super 15 rugby action, with the Reds and Brumbies in action of Friday night. The Force will welcome the Rebels on Saturday afternoon, while the Waratahs have the bye this weekend.

Saturday night will see the sixth edition of the Sydney derby in the A-League when the Sydney FC host the Wanderers at Allianz Stadium. The Sky Blues won the maiden clash between the two sides but are yet to register three points in this fixture since. They’ll be desperate to cement their place in the top-six against Tony Popovic’s side who currently sit second on the ladder.

There will be a full round of domestic football action with Dimi Petratos’ Brisbane Roar side at home to in-form Adelaide United on Sunday afternoon in the other huge match-up this weekend. Before that’s played there’ll be plenty of overnight action in the English Premier League that’s sure to keep football fans up late.

Also on the cards will be the opening round of season seven of the Netball Championship, the AFL boys continue their pre-season competition and our cricketers will be hoping to continue South Africa’s misery when they pad-up for their Twenty20 series to close out the weekend.

Well that’s our rundown for the weekend – as always you can get your competitive fix on court by booking a tennis court or Golden Goal field. The forecast is for fine weather so there’s no excuse not to get be a part of the sporting action at SSC.
