There was more great news for the Petratos family last week with oldest boy Dimitri nominated for the A-League’s Young Player of the Year Award.
The Brisbane Roar attacker was recognised for his outstanding performances throughout January, with his season tally now standing at two goals and three assists.
Dimi’s recognition follows the announcement younger brother Kosta had signed his first professional football contract with rival A-League club Perth Glory.
For members and guests who are unaware the Petratos family runs the casual bookings for the club’s state of the art Golden Goal facility.
It seems that all the time spent practicing on the fields over the years is paying off as Dimi’s career continues to rise!
This is the second time he has been nominated for the award, having also been the January selection two years ago for his performances in the 2013/14 season.
Brisbane Roar are currently joint top of the table alongside the Western Sydney Wanderers and they’ll have the chance to skip ahead when they host the Newcastle Jets on Friday night.
“I’m proud to receive this nomination and it is as much for the whole squad as for me,” said Dimitri following his nomination.
“All the Roar boys are pretty tight, everyone works hard at training, and it pays off in games.”
The 23-year-old also thanked Roar coach John Aloisi, who he says has helped him get back to some of the best form of his career.
“The Boss’ messages and directions are very clear. I am working a lot harder in training and the season has been great so far.
“I just try to do my best and help the team where ever possible.”
Dimitri is the third Brisbane player to be in the running for the end of season award, joining teammates Jamie Maclaren and Brandon Borrello.
The winner will be announced at the A-League’s annual awards night on Tuesday 26th April.
On behalf of everyone at SSC we’d like to congratulate Dimi on his well-deserved accolade and wish him all the best for the rest of the season.
You can catch Dimi and all the A-League action LIVE on the big screen in the clubhouse every weekend.
