Strathfield Sports Club’s (SSC) Golden Goal golden boys could face each other in the A-League this weekend when Perth Glory host Brisbane Roar on Saturday night.
Dimitri and Kosta Petratos have both been in the football headlines of late, Dimi nominated for the Young Footballer of the Year award, while Kosta recently signed his first professional contract.
The pair have a long standing association with SSC, with the Petratos family running the casual bookings for the club’s outdoor five-a-side football facility.
The brothers have spent many countless hours practicing their craft on the club’s two fields over the years and many attentive members have followed their careers closely.
It will make for a proud moment for Mum and Dad should they both be on the field at the same time – but just who will they be cheering for?
“When it comes to which team to go for it makes it a very difficult situation for a parent,” father and Golden Goal director Angelo Petratos told the SSC website.
“My wife is going to wear a scarf on each arm, while I’ll be cheering for both on the inside.
“We’re just immensely proud of what the boys have achieved.”
Dimitri has featured regularly for Brisbane this season, who lead the competition by a point heading into this weekend’s Round 20 action.
The 23-year-old is in his third season at the Queensland club, having previously played for Sydney FC and signed an extension for next season late last year.
Dimitri and Angelo in fact use to play on the same team together in the NSW NPL, before Dimi began his A-League journey five seasons ago.
Kosta meanwhile is just beginning on his senior football career having been signed during football’s January transfer window.
Still just 17, he has spent the last two years at FFA’s Centre of Excellence in Canberra and featured regularly for the Joeys – Australia’s U-17 national side.
The forward made his A-League debut a fortnight ago off the bench in New Zealand and again came on a substitute in Perth’s win over Sydney FC last weekend.
It all points to Dimi and Kosta being on the field at the same time at some stage on Saturday night, becoming just the tenth set of brothers to do so in A-League history if it happens.
The match kicks off at 9.40pm AEDT and we’ll definitely have it up on the big screen in the clubhouse but just like Mum and Dad we’re not exactly sure who we’ll be cheering for!
