This weekend at SSC:
We once again have a super sporting weekend for patrons of Strathfield Sports Club, as we bring you all the action from around the globe. There is a smorgasbord of matches on offer to keep you entertained, so we encourage you to do your best Larry Emdur impression and “come on down!”
Friday we’ll get play under way in the afternoon when Australia hosts the West Indies in the 4th ODI at the SCG. Despite already clinching the series, the Aussies will be keen to continue their good form. The world Twenty20 champions from the Caribbean have proven they have some big hitting potential, so if you can’t make it to the ground join us for all the hits. We will also have the A-League clash in Adelaide, where the Reds will be hoping to turn their form slump around against Melbourne Victory.
Saturday night will feature hits of a different kind when we bring you the rugby league All-Stars game. The annual fixture will showcase the games’ best players when the NRL All-Stars take on the Indigenous All-Stars, in a game that has come to mean much more than just a pre-season friendly. Every NRL club will be represented by at least one player, so whomever you support there’s no reason not to tune in for the first game of the year.
We will also have a double-header in the A-League featuring the Heart taking on the Glory, followed by the Wanderers playing host to the Jets. Sydney FC will play last year’s premiers Brisbane the following day in the final match of the round.
With Strathfield on the cusp of the WSW’s and Sydney FC battle lines let us know who you think we should support by hitting us up on our Facebook page or better still show us your colours down at the Club!
Later on Saturday night we will cross to the UK for the early game in the EPL, which sees Tottenham pitted against Newcastle. Spurs will be desperate to atone for their loss at St. James’ Park earlier in the season, while the Maggies will be keen to prove to fans they have turned the corner after last week’s thrilling last minute win over Chelsea.
We will also have some late night tennis action, when the Aussie women take on the Czech Republic in the Fed Cup. Led by team captain Alicia Molik, Australia’s quartet of Sam Stosur, Casey Delacqua, Jarmila Gajdosova and Ashleigh Barty will need to play out of their skin to overcome the world’s top ranked female nation.
Instead of providing some respite, Sunday will have all of the above! There is more cricket ODI, A-League, EPL and Fed Cup action. We will also have the ICC’s women’s world cup and the ABL Grand Final for lovers of cricket and baseball respectively.
So make sure you support your team and your local club this weekend by getting down to SSC. We promise we’ll be sporting a smile and sporting on our screens all weekend!
