He’s been around the club so long he’s become part of the furniture but while we admit some of our chairs need updating Dave is irreplaceable!
Always grinning and with a story to tell Dave “large skim-cap” Rutherford is one of our favourite members at Strathfield Sports Club.
He’s also extremely knowledgeable about a lot of sports – just don’t ask him how his beloved Parramatta Eels are going to fare this season.
Dave talks a good game on the court too and has been a long-standing servant of the club’s Badge tennis teams.
This season he will pair up with Coach Shaun Max among others on the Div. 2 or 3 Men’s team and is hoping to go one better after losing the grand final earlier this year.
Dave is also a keen indoor cricketer and has represented NSW for the past eight years, winning two State titles during his career.
According to Dave the best baristas on the SSC staff are Keri and Laine and his favourite food on the Red Pepper menu are the good old French fries.
Dave thinks the best thing about being a member of SSC is the friendly environment and staff however he wishes there were more people to have a regular hit with – so if you’re ever looking for a social game of tennis Dave could be your man!
While there have been too many sporting highlights Dave has witnessed at the club to name them all he ranks the Aussies winning the cricket World Cup earlier this year as his most cherished.
He’ll also be hoping the Wallabies can get one over the All Blacks this weekend in the rugby World Cup final to add to the list.
Always the gentlemen and in a friendly mood Dave endears himself to everyone he encounters at SSC. He embodies many of the values we hold dear as a club and we hope to have him as a valued member for many years to come!
