This weekend at SSC:
To our loyal readership contingent out there, we know you’ve been waiting all week to discover what’s happening at Strathfield Sports Club this weekend. So you’ll be pleased to read it’s going to be another bumper weekend for our patrons. Here’s our weekly insight to the sport we’ll be hosting and things that are going on.
Friday night sees the kick-off to the Super 15 rugby season, with the Melbourne Rebels taking on the Western Force in the season opener. Both sides will be fielding new-look line-ups, which will pit the grunt of the Force forward pack up against the flair of the Rebels’ young, talented backline. The two newest Australian sides to the competition will be desperate to get a jump on their conference rivals, so there’s sure to be a lot of points scored.
We will also have the start to another round of A-League, with Newcastle taking on the Heart. Both sides have underperformed in recent weeks and will be pushing for three points to stay in touch with the top-six. There has also been speculation this week that Socceroos captain Lucas Neil is set to join the Melbourne outfit, so tune in for an update on this possible transfer.
Saturday sees a continuation of the A-League round and has a distinct Sydney flavour, with the Sky Blues, Wanderers and Mariners all in action against inter-state opposition. The triple-header will feature the talents of internationals Alessandro Del Piero, Marco Rojas, Shinji Ono and Shane Smeltz, who have all been on fire in recent weeks.
Another A-League talent who recently transferred to Celtic in the January transfer window, Tom Rogic has made the transition to Scottish football with ease. The young Aussie midfielder has already provided a couple of goal assists and has a young supporter base that has been cheering him on. See this classic vision here: http://bit.ly/15gJCO4
Saturday night we will also have another late-night edition of Purebred Poker. Since its introduction the game has steadily grown in numbers, with punters drawn to the inventive format of having a price on your head that you claim for knocking someone out. Check out our Facebook page for more details.
Sunday will have more football action, with Brisbane taking on Wellington in the final match of the A-League round. Later on we will cross to England for the FA Cup replays, which will see some of the cream of English football in Chelsea and Manchester City, taking on lowly Brentford and Leeds respectively, for a place in the next round.
Sunday will also see Strathfield Sports Club host its Annual General Meeting. We will be having a sausage sizzle from 11am, at which time all members can cast their vote for the board of directors. The AGM itself will be held in the clubhouse at 1pm and voting will be closed upon its conclusion. This year we have the situation where we have more nominations than positions, so it is more important than ever to get down and vote and make your voice heard!
Don’t miss the opportunity to hear about what your club has been doing and what we have planned for the next 12 months. These are exciting times for Strathfield Sports Club and we love to keep our members abreast of what’s going on. We look forward to seeing you then for what is a great day for our great Club!
