After two weeks and six rounds of world class tennis action, a field of 128 has been whittled down to the final two, with defending champion Novak Djokovic set to take on Andy Murray in the final of the US Open tomorrow (September 11).
For Murray it will be matter of pride, as the 25-year-old looks to prove his incredible London 2012 victory was no fluke by winning his first Grand Slam title.
Djokovic on the other hand will want to make amends for his 7-5, 7-5 loss to Murray in the Olympics semi-final. At the same time, the Serbian will be eyeing up his second Grand Slam of 2012, after previously winning the Australian Open in January.
"It's not the first time we are playing an important match against each other in best-of-five. I'm sure we will deliver some good tennis for the people," said Djokovic in a pre-match press conference.
Critics are saying that the match has all the makings of a classic, so this will be one not to be missed.
Meanwhile Serena Williams has claimed the women's title with a remarkable come from behind victory against world number one Victoria Azarenka.
The nail biting final stretched for more than two and a quarter hours, with Williams dominating the first set 6–2 before Azarenka fought back to reverse the score line and claim the second 2-6.
The Belarusian looked to have gained control of the match early in the third set and pushed out to a 3-5 lead, but Williams refused to lay down and battled back to claim the set and the match 7-5.
The result is Williams' fourth US Open title after previously winning the event in 1999, 2002 and 2008, and is her 15th career Grand Slam title overall.
