Roger Federer has stormed to victory at the ATP Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, Ohio, after beating out Novak Djokovic in the final of the men's tournament over the weekend (August 19, local time).
After looking so dominant throughout the whole event, Federer seemed to completely overpower Djokovic and smashed the world number two in the opening set without dropping a game.
Djokovic proceeded to rally in the second set and pushed Federer to the brink, taking him to a long tie breaker, but the Swiss Maestro eventually got the better of his opponent and sealed a comfortable victory.
Turning in such an impressive final score line – 6-0, 7-6 (9-7) – over his long-time rival may go some way to alleviating some of the hurt Federer will have been feeling after his London 2012 disappointment.
"Even with how well I’m playing you never expect yourself to win these big matches. It’s been a great week for me," said Federer after the match.
"It's been an amazing week and a magical summer and I'm looking forward to New York now," added Federer, referring to the US Open which will take place later this month.
With this victory, Federer claims his 76th career title and moves one step closer to overtaking John McEnroe on the modern era singles title list.
All eyes will now turn to the Winston-Salem Open in North Carolina which began on August 19 and will culminate on August 25 (local time).
Players to watch include John Isner and Andy Roddick, who opened the tournament with a bye and will now have to get through James Blake if he wishes to progress further.
