This weekend at SSC:

While we’ve all had time to breathe a collective sigh of relief after a huge couple of weeks at the Australian Open, there’s still plenty on sport on at Strathfield Sports Club this weekend.

As the January transfer deadline comes to a close, football will take centre stage as clubs home and abroad jostle for league positions. The weekend will feature another round of A-League action, with a place in the finals still very much up for grabs for all teams.

Friday night will feature the clash between last year’s minor-premiers and championship winners, when the Central Coast battle Brisbane Roar. Saturday we have another triple header to keep you entertained. The lowly Phoenix and Glory will battle for pride in the first game, followed by Newcastle taking on Sydney FC. We have the Melbourne derby to round out the night in what is sure to be a fiery encounter.

Sunday we will cross to the city of churches, where Adelaide, still reeling from the surprise resignation of their coach John Kosmina, will take on the spirited Wanderers. Both sides will be hoping to get one over their rivals to consolidate attempts for a top-two finish.

We will also have a smattering of EPL action across the weekend, off the back of the mid-week round. We will cross to England for the early game on both Saturday and Sunday and give you a recap of how your team feared in the transfer window on deadline day.

Of course not all the action will be on television. After a successful debut last weekend, Purebred Poker returns to SSC this Saturday night. Featuring a special format that puts a price on your head, there are sure to be some huge pots up for grabs. Whether you’re a social player or fancy yourself as a bit of a card shark there is plenty of fun to be had and we’d love to see your poker face.

We are also encouraging all our tennis members to get down to the club Sunday morning for our members social hit. Now that the rains seemed to have finally passed we are expecting a big turnout for some on court action. Whether you have a regular hitting partner or not, make the most of this opportunity as play will be followed by a Bbq, which will be a great chance to meet some new fellow members and make some new friends.

We haven’t forgotten about the biggest sporting event on this weekend, with the Super Bowl taking over our screens on Monday morning from 11am. All eyes will turn to the US for the 47th edition of the NFL championship game, as the San Francisco 49ers take on the Baltimore Ravens for the title. We will have Millers on tap to get you in the mood and would love to see you down at SSC if you’re fortunate enough to not have to be at work!

Whatever your plans this weekend we hope you have a thoroughly enjoyable time and make the most of this endless summer of sport!
