A cheery hello to all our tennis members on behalf of the coaches at the Inner West Tennis Academy (IWTA) and an update of what’s been happening in tennis at your club over the past few months.
Firstly a big congratulations to David Rutherford who recently competed in the National Special Games. David did extremely well in both the singles and doubles events, making the final in the doubles and the semis in the singles, losing a hard fought match to the eventual winner and No.1 seed. Well done David – keep up the good work!
Our inter-district teams have also performed extremely well in recent times, with our Div.1 team finishing 3rd and our Div.3 team winning the final. It’s pleasing to see our junior members enjoying their tennis and representing the club with distinction.
Our JDS squad continues to grow and has been showing good improvement throughout the year. Our JDS players represent SSC at inter-district level and also play junior tournaments throughout the year. Our current JDS squad consists of Tommi Perica, Sean Cliff, JamesStathiak, Oliver Lavermicocca, Nicholas Fiocco, Joseph Cliff, Kishan Velmurugan, Sahasra Bandi, Bianca Baniya and Sree Sista. The future of SSC tennis looks bright in your hands.
All young players wishing to train for junior competition level are more than welcome to contact head coach AlexDebelja, who regularly conducts gradings for final positions in JDS squads. We wish all these youngsters all the best heading into summer comps and junior tournaments.
We’d also like to inform all parents with young children that we’ll once again be running tennis camps in the January school holidays. Anyone interested in more information regarding camps can give Alex or Shaun a call any time to discuss the various options.
The IWTA pro shop has a 10% saving being offered to all members of SSC throughout summer. The Pro Shop has the latest range of strings available for all your racquet needs and the staff will gladly help you with any questions regarding string suitability and appropriate grip sizes.
