We’ve waited all summer for league season to arrive and like a birthday card from your grandma it was delivered on time, full of reasons to look forward to the year ahead and money!

For those who missed it, the NRL season kicked off on Thursday night with South Sydney burrowing their way to the line on five occasions to down the Roosters. All eyes were on the eagerly anticipated return of Sonny-Bill Williams and while he bagged a try coming off the bench he was unable to inspire a new look Roosters side to a win against last year’s semi-finalists.

The opening rounds of the competition will feature match-ups five nights a week and you can be sure we’ll have all the games playing on our big screen with surround sound at SSC. Friday night will see Brisbane host Manly in what promises to be another tough contest between two sides that always have finals aspirations. We’ll have three games on Saturday, another two on Sunday and the Knights take on the Tigers in Monday night football to round out the weekend.

While we unashamedly might have a bit of a league bias at Strathfield Sports Club, of course there will be plenty of other sporting action throughout the weekend.

Friday night we’ll have the domestic match-up between the Rebels and Reds in the Super 15 and another interstate rivalry when Newcastle and Perth do battle in the A-League.

Saturday afternoon will be more of an east-coast affair with Sydney FC taking on Central Coast, in a must-win game for the Sky Blues if they hope to make this year’s finals series. Brisbane will take on Melbourne in the night’s other fixture. We’ll also have the huge game between the Waratahs and Brumbies, which will feature a host of Wallabies and have a big bearing on the Aussie conference in the Super 15.

Later in the evening we’ll again cross to England to preview another highly anticipated round of EPL action. We’ll also have Purebred Poker playing in our beer garden, so come down if you like your football or fancy a flutter!

Sunday will see the Wanderers hoping to continue their amazing win streak when they take on bottom placed Wellington. After going top of the table on the back of last week’s result against the Mariners, WSW will be looking to make it nine in a row as they hope to achieve the remarkable feat of claiming the Premier’s Plate in their inaugural season.

We’ll have replays of all the overnight EPL games, followed by live action in the FA Cup. There will also be highlights from the weekend’s NAB Cup match-ups and of course all the League to keep you entertained.

So whether you’re looking to have a hit of tennis or come down for a meal, you can be sure SSC will be the place to be this weekend. We’re sure to be busy throughout the weekend, so make sure you follow our golden rule- book early, book often, book at Strathfield Sports Club!
